During the first half of 2015 I spent a lot of time on a school project I called Leap2Arduino2Tx (easy name to remember, right?) in a course called Digital Vision at Umeå University. The goal of the project was to be able to control a multirotor (or a drone, whatever you want to call it) by only using gestures from one hand. It might sound like something out of Minority Report, but the solution is actually quite simple!
I installed Yosemite about a week ago and I must say, it’s great (even on my +4 year-old MacBook Pro); the subtle blurs, the new dock look/behavior, the absence of gloss, the fact that Apple figured out how to do full-screen properly, the font-consistency, etc. There are unfortunately a few icons that ruin the overall OS X experience (see picture), so I decided to do something about it.
So I moved to Hong Kong. Yes, the “small-half-island-jungle-full-with-people-that-used-to-be-an-english-colony-that-china-now-controls”-country is now my home. I’m currently one month into my four-month-semester-stay and I’ve just gotten used to the climate, food and culture. This is a short update on how things are going.
During the first part of this term at Umeå University I was contacted by Screen Interaction for an awesome work opportunity. Since I still have two whole years left in Umeå I had to turn down the offer. But it turned out that Screen also needed a UI/UX designer for the summer which fit me perfectly!
This is how they define themselves: (in Swedish, sorry) “Screen Interaction är en design- och innovationsbyrå som utvecklar morgondagens digitala tjänster och produkter med fokus på användbarhet och affärsnytta”.
For the last, I don’t know, 4/5(?) years I’ve had the same old portfolio; a simple “one page, scroll a lot, no content”-kind of website. It was really nothing fancy about it; no CMS, no PHP, no nothing. In my defense I knew nothing about web development when I created it, the idea was to have something temporary till I learned more (yeah right!). During it’s rather long lifespan I’ve given it absolutely no love, only updating it only about once a year with new projects, mostly due to the lack of time and interest. Well, not any more.
I started designing this new website during Christmas break and it’s finally, somewhat, finished (yeah I know there are still bugs) for an initial release, even though the “Resume”- and “Links” pages are far from complete. I actually started the redesign process sometime in 2011 and since then I’ve started on at least 6(!) different designs, none of which have been finished.
